Factors affecting the cleanliness of glassware

October 12, 2022

A clean experimental vessel is a prerequisite for obtaining correct experimental results. Therefore, the cleaning of the experimental container is an important preparatory work before the experiment. So, what are the main factors that affect the cleanliness of laboratory glassware?
Factors that affect the cleanliness of glassware:

1, cleaning time:

Time and mechanical force: Generally, the longer the cleaning time, the better the cleaning effect, thus ensuring the cleaning effect.
Time and chemical reaction: The cleaning agent, like mechanical force, also needs a certain period of time to have a chemical reaction with the residue to realize the dissolution, emulsification and decomposition of the residue.

2, cleaning temperature:

Temperature and surface tension of washing water: Generally, the higher the temperature, the lower the surface tension of the glassware surface, and the enhanced wetting ability.
Temperature vs. Cleaning Material and Chemical Reaction: Each cleaning program has an appropriate temperature, which depends on the chemical reaction of the cleaning material and cleaning agent. In this reaction process, suitable temperature played a good catalytic role.
Temperature strong alkaline cleaning agent contains KOH or NaOH, the higher the cleaning temperature, the better the cleaning effect, but manual cleaning cannot achieve the cleaning effect of higher temperature.
Temperature and Protein: The high temperature used at the start of the wash can cause the protein to coagulate, which is the main reason the pre-wash process takes place at room temperature.

3, cleaning mechanical force

The cleaning agent is driven by a circulating pump, sprays cleaning liquid, and directly wipes the surface of the object to be cleaned in 360 degrees, thereby peeling off the pollutants on the object to be cleaned. For different cleaning items, different flow rates and pressures are required to ensure vigorous and vigorous operation. While cleaning, be sure not to damage the cleaning material due to excessive pressure.

4, cleaning agent

Alkaline cleaners utilize metal saponification and emulsification, soaking and wetting mechanisms to remove metal surface oils, such as saponified oils (animal and vegetable oils) and unsaponifiable oils (mineral oils), which are converted to fatty acids and ethanol. Alkaline detergents also react with peptide bonds and carboxylates in proteins, converting them into amino acids and carboxylates, mainly used for washing organic pollutants.
The main purpose of acidic detergents is to prevent and remove mineral deposits. First, it converts salts that are insoluble in water in an inorganic state into a soluble state, making them easy to wash off. For example, the lime precipitate produces carbon dioxide under the action of acid, and the dissolved state changes from insoluble to soluble. The acid can also be used as a neutralizing agent to effectively neutralize and remove the alkali residue on the surface of the container to achieve better washing effect.
5, cleaning water

Water is an important part of the washing process and is used as a dissolving detergent or rinsing liquid. It also provides mechanical and thermal energy during the washing process.
