Glassblowing: Art in flames

Glassware processing base, a hot production scene. After picking, rolling, blowing, fixing and other processes, the glass stock liquid, as thick as syrup, blooms in a variety of positions in the flame.

After forming the glass, but also after cutting, grinding, baking, inspection, washing and other processes, a crystal clear glass is completed.

The first step in blowing is to pick the material. Workers use a picking rod to gently pick in the glass liquid, a group of orange glass liquid will be attached to the pipe mouth.

The blowers then blow the liquid glass into a bulb shaped ball, which is then fixed on a roller to maintain its shape. This step is known as blowing "bubbles". The picture shows the glass "bubble" after the initial blowing.

Take the material again on the basis of the pellet forming, put it into the rolling bowl and rotate continuously, roll into a circle, ready for the next step of blowing.

After the batch is symmetrical, the blower gently blows the air into the bar from the other end of the bar, and turns the bar body at the same time. Blowing time and blowing volume are the key to ensure the size of the product. Blowing too much will make the end of the product too thin and the size too large. Otherwise, the end is too thick and the size is small.

Place the blown pellet into the mold and adjust the Angle as you blow. Under the continuous blowing and rotation, the material bubble continues to expand and gradually fit the mold. This step is called blowing "big bubble", the technical requirements of the blower is high, and usually requires many years of blowing experience to complete.

Glass is subjected to intense temperature and shape changes during blowing, which leave thermal stress in the glass. Thermal stress can reduce the strength and thermal stability of glass products. If cooled directly, it is likely to break during storage, transportation and use.

To avoid this problem, glass products must be annealed after forming. Heat preservation or slow cooling in the appropriate temperature range for a period of time to reduce thermal stress in the glass.

The entire production process of glass blowing must be achieved in a high temperature environment. The picture shows a worker using a heating gun to bake the bottom of a bottle.

After the cup cools down, for the waste at the mouth of the cup, the excess part needs to be cut according to the order size. Usually, workers will first cut the scratches with a glass knife, and then roast them with fire to make them fall off naturally and ensure that the mouth of the cup is smooth and round.

The finished glass also needs to be cleaned and inspected. The picture shows workers examining finished products through light.
